Remember Me Pockets August

The people and dates remembered in August will give your students something to think about!
~Our highlighted author for the month is Marjorie K. Rawlings, the author of The Yearling. By studying her life and how she was raised, how she was educated, and who she married, we can understand how she created such a tender story that has made adults cry! This biographical assessment is given in a Lines of Time format for both younger and older students.
~They will learn how Lord Tennyson suffered in childhood, yet transferred that suffering to pen and paper and has given us beautiful poetry.
~In an interview with Annie Oakley, readers will discover how she used her skill to feed her family and met the man of her dreams.
~By celebrating National Inventor's month, gas masks, odometers, and peanut by products are researched and presented in a Sticker Study format.
~Travel the world and create postcards on National Lighthouse Day. These postcards are designed for the reluctant writers and will provide not only a writing activity, but a geography and history lesson as well.
~Book Lover's Day gives us a wonderful opportunity to present genres and understand what books belong where on the book shelf. Critical thinking skills are used in this activity and the hands on and visual learner will benefit from this creative lesson.
~We finish off our summer with picnic planning decisions that need to be made on what to take and what not to take in our basket. Memory based and decision making skills are needed to complete this file. Kids won't mind as it is National Picnic Month!
Collectively or used individually, the files in this collection were designed for kids who think in not-so-classical ways.
